Violet F. McQuiston, 83, Kokomo, passed away September 10, 2011 at Howard Regional Health Systems. She was born January 9, 1928 in Carroll County to the late Willie R. and Lottie Jane (Mossburg) Thompson. On September 29, 1945, she married Gilbert R. McQuiston. Gilbert passed away in December of 2003.
At at young age, Violet's father passed away. She was forever thankful to her stepfather, William Rayl for raising her with her mother. Violet loved to serve in her local community by teaching cooking lessons at local nursing homes, and volunteering at the Logansport State Hospital. She also loved to oil pant, cook, and spend time with her family and friends. She was a proud lifetime member and deacon of the Kokomo Church of the Brethren.
Surviving are her children; Rolland (Rebecca) McQuiston, Windfall, Rebecca (Rick) Gentry, Russiaville, grandchildren; Tracey Claxton, Bringhurst, Angela McQuiston, Windfall, Aaron McQuiston, Kokomo, Heath Gentry, Kokomo, Ashley Flenor, Noblesville, Austion, McQuiston, Frankfort. Seven great grandchildren; Lauren Claxton, Derrick Claxton, Blake Claxton, Chelsie Gentry, Xavier McQuiston, Xander McQuiston, Oliver McQuiston, sisters; Dorothy Stockdale, Kokomo, Sue Adams, Greentown, Betty Poe, Kokomo, Mary Ellen Jones, Florida, brothers; George Rayl, Robert Rayl.
Preceded in death; her parents; husband; step father; daughter, Linda Sterling; sister; Mary Jane Walls, brothers; Leonard Rayl, Dick Rayl.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00PM, Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at Kokomo Church of the Brethren, with Pastor Mark Stahl officiating. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Kokomo Rescue Mission, or Saint Jude's Children Hospital.
