STILLWATER, Okla. — Eula Marie (McQuiston Hornberger) Spillane died on Aug. 23, 2010, in Stillwater, Okla.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Aug. 26, 2010. at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Father Kenneth Harder officiating. Interment will follow at Sumner Cemetery in Sumner, Okla. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Eula was born to David Clement and Lou Grace (Gilpin) McQuiston on Feb. 8, 1911, in Sumner, Okla. She attended Pale Elementary and graduated from Sumner schools. Eula was active in high school sports, playing basketball. She enjoyed all sports, especially watching the sport of football in her later years.
Eula married William Lee “Bill” Hornberger Sr. on Aug. 18, 1933, in Perry, Okla. They were blessed with seven children. The young couple moved later from rural Morrison, Okla., into town. In December 1947, her husband lost his life in a plane crash.
The surviving children are William Lee Hornberger Jr. of Stillwater; Wanda Lou (Hornberger) Sanders of Oologah, Okla.; Kenneth W. “Bud” Hornberger and wife, Yvonne, of Stillwater; George Clement Hornberger of Casper, Wyo.; Dorothy Marie (Hornberger) Knott and husband, Dan, of Newalla, Okla.; and Mariann (Hornberger) Greenwald of Salt Lake City, Utah. Eula lost one son, James Frank Hornberger, while he was serving in the U.S. Navy in March 1971.
Many blessings came to her through her 15 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
Eula married Neal Glenn Spillane in June of 1955. They had one son, David Glenn Spillane, of rural Stillwater.
Eula was a longtime member of Sumner Home Demonstration Club. She was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church of Stillwater and belonged to the Altar Society.
Eula was preceded in death by her parents, one son, both husbands, four brothers, one sister, two sons-in-law, two daughters-in-law and one grandson.
Eula leaves many nieces, nephews and extended family members along with many friends she made throughout her life. She had smiles for all.
