      Jean McQuiston Coover MT. PLEASANT - Jean McQuiston Coover, 92, formerly of Morgantown WV, passed away on Thursday, April 21, 2011, in Mt. Pleasant, SC.

      She was born in McKeesport, PA, and moved to Morgantown as a child. Mrs. Coover graduated from Morgantown High School in 1935, and received both her BA and MA from West Virginia University.

      She taught in several local public schools, lastly at Westover Junior High, before joining the faculty of the West Virginia University math department, where she was an associate professor.

      During her time at WVU, Mrs. Coover was responsible for starting the Math Learning Center, which she ran until her retirement in 1986.

      She was the widow of Mullen O. Coover, Associate Professor of Biology at WVU. She and her late husband were active members of Drummond Chapel United Methodist Church, where they taught the fifth grade Sunday school class for thirty years.

      Mrs. Coover was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority, the Mathematical Association of America, the Monongalia County Historical Society, and a volunteer with Meals On Wheels.

      In 2008 she moved to South Carolina to live near her son and his family.

      Preceded in death by her parents, Dr. C. Norris and Hilda O. McQuiston, and her husband, Mullen O. Coover, Sr. Mrs. Coover is survived by her son Colonel (Dr.) Mullen O. Coover, Jr. and wife, Theresa Robards, and grandchildren Darcy, Kevin and Patrick Coover, all of Mount Pleasant, SC.

      A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the West Virginia University Foundation @ http://www.wvuf.org.
