- Funeral services for Roby Roy Baker, 89, Fowler, will be 2 p.m. March 19 at Fowler Methodist Church with Rev. Jeanne Redshaw officiating. Mr. Baker died March 15, 2008, at Fowler Health Care Center.
He was born April 8, 1918, in Mountain Home, AR, to Andrew Henry Baker and Hettie Bell Dewey Baker.
In 1936, he moved with his family to Olney Springs.
Mr. Baker married Myrtle Bertha Wilson on July 16, 1939, in Rocky Ford. She precede him in death on April 3, 1973.
In 1974, he married Dorothy McCuistion Marvin.
He was a farmer in Crowley County for most of his life and his love for agriculture illustrated he was a hard worker. His favorite crops were cantaloupe and watermelon and he loved to split open melons with his fingers and share the heart.
He is survived by sons Lee Roy(Kathy) Baker and Danny(Penny) Baker, both of Fowler, daughter Geraldine Mosier of Raymor, MO, and grandchildren Terry Blythe, Dianne VonHemel, Kevin Baker and Dannette Winters.
Four stepchildren, Judy(Wayne) Jones, Jill(Sam) Rogge, Marilyn(Steve) Chenoweth and Marsha(Billy) Reed also survive as do eight step grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and a brother Elvis(Doris) Baker and sister Jewell(Cal) Stockton.
Mr. Baker was preceded in death by his first wife Myrtle, grandson Brian Baker and 11 siblings.
Music at the service will be by the Church of Christ singers.
Casket bearers will be Kevin Baker, J. R. Baker, Bill Varner, Brad Winters, Jerald Von Hemel, Jeff Stockton and Jerry Norton.
Honorary casket bearers will be Gene Varner and Bob Baker.
Following the service, interment will be held at Olney Springs Cemetery. Griffy Family Funeral Home in Fowler is in charge of arrangements.
