Hazel Marian Kelly Winegar, 94, of Northview Estates, Ellwood City, and formerly of Chewton, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2011, at the Mary Evans Unit of the Ellwood City Hospital following an extended illness.
Born in Chewton, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Joseph Douglas and Anna Rachel McQuiston Kelly. She was married on April 9, 1940 to the late Byrl Lee Winegar who passed away on April 18, 1973. Hazel graduated from Wampum High School in the Class of 1935. She was a life member of the Chewton Christian Church, served as the financial secretary, was a Sunday School teacher for 35 years, a deaconess, and the church janitor for a number of years. She was a member of Wimodausis Society of New Castle, member and past president of the Wampum Area Women's Club, member of the Big Beaver Grange, a charter member of the Wampum AARP, and a member of the Forever Young Ones of the Wampum Presbyterian Church.
While a homemaker since the late 30s, she also worked as a part-time housekeeper for friends and relatives. She was active in the Chewton School PTA. She worked delivering flowers for Hennon's Greenhouse to local flower shops and delivering food to the elementary buildings in the Ellwood Area School District. In her later years, she enjoyed caning chairs, woodworking, bottling and selling honey, patio gardening and feeding birds.
Survivors include one son, Donald Lee Winegar and his wife, Nancy Ann King Winegar of Ellwood City; one daughter, Cheryl Ann Winegar Mohrbacher and her husband, G. William Mohrbacher of Beaver Falls; two grandchildren, Lee O'Brien Winegar and Karen Ulota Winegar (Frank) Klinzing, and two great-grandchildren, Jessica Lee Klinzing and Beryl William Klinzing, all of Fombell.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Phillip Merideth Kelly and David Merle Kelly.
Visiting hours will be held Friday, Jan. 28, 2011 from 11 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 1 p.m. at the MARSHALL FUNERAL HOME, 341 Main Street, Wampum. Pastor Dick Allen of the Chewton Christian Church will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Chewton Christian Church, 354 Oswald St., Wampum, PA 16157, the First Christian Church, 110 Ada Dr., Ellwood City, PA 16117 or the Beaver County Humane Society, P.O. Box 63, Monaca, PA 15061.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staffs of Southern Care Hospice and Northview Estates for their loving and compassionate care.
