WOW!.....thanks, David, for all the great information!?..paddy and I are
looking at air fares, etc??after I graduated from the university of Washington
in 1968, I attended Harvard for one year in 1971 for some post-graduate work
in literature?..we?d like to fly into boston, re-visit the Harvard campus, the
boston commons, where I used to play tennis at 6:00 every morning, etc?.it
could be a fun time to accomplish a lot of things at once?.

My dad, george dowe mcquesten, was born in litchfield, new hampshsire on
march 20, 1871?.he died December 11, 1965?his father was henry wingate
mcquesten, born in litchfield on January 7, 1834?he attended the Manchester
academy?.he inherited the family homestead in litchfield and later settled in
      merrimack?.

Henry married sarah Elizabeth jones, born December 19 in thornton?s
ferry?..she was the daughter of Roseanna Tewksbury jones and a direct
descendant of matthew thornton, who signed the declaration of independence
and lived on the west bank of the Merrimack river. She was educated at
mcGaw Institute, the Nashua literary school and Plymouth normal. Prior to
her marriage, she taught in Litchfield, Amherst, Plymouth and montreal, as
well as sixteen successive terms at new boston, N.H?.

Henry died july 28, 1902. Politically he was a democrat; an attendant of the
congregational church. Roseanna died july 3, 1915, and is buried in the
      Tacoma mausoleum.

Henry and Roseanna had 5 children:

Henry, jr., born 1866; died l936
Rose Elizabeth born 1869; died 1871
George dowe born 1871; died 1965 (my dad)
Frank jones born 1874; died (?)
David Maurice born 1876; died 1953 (I knew David very well; he was a
wonderful man and great family man)

      Henry?s father was:

Henry McQuesten was born in Litchfield in 1804; died 1861 (fell from an apple
      tree) (my great grandfather)

      Children:

James franklin born 1835; died 1864

James McQuesten born 1761 in Litchfield; died 1834 (my great-great
      grandfather)

James married Ann Moor and had 12 children:

Daniel Moor born 1789; died 1872
      John born 1791
      William born 1792; died 1845
      James born 1794; died 1853
      John born 1796; died 1880
      Clifton born 1799; died 1803
      Jan Gay born 1800
      Jane Claggett born 1801;died 1893
      Henry born 1804; died 1861
      Nancy born 1806; died 1873
Mary Shirley born 1809; died 1840
      Martha born 1811; died 1887

William McQuesten born 1732 in litchfield; died1802 (my great-great-great
      grandfather)

William married margaret nahor in 1738; she died in 1796
William married anna parker who died in 1825

      William and margaret?s children:

Hugh nahor born 1774; died 1830
      Martha born 1776-died young
      Elizabeth born 1778; died 1854

      William McQuesten born

William?s father deeded him the new Hampshire homestead in 1758; he served
as a major in the sixth regiment of militia, during the revolution.

I am getting cross-eyed trying to get this down right?.i?m not sure I have it all
      straight?.it becomes confusing before 1732?.

I have some notes here that say william (the first william) was born in
Argyleshire in Scotland in 1685 and died in Litchfield in 1769?.he emigrated
to Medford, Massachusetts in 1730?he emigrated from Scotland to northern
      Ireland around 1700

      Anyway, hope this helps!

My dad was an interesting fellow; he worked for president Cleveland as a
secretary while he earned his law degree at george Washington university?.he
transferred to the department of justice when Cleveland lost his second
election?.when Cleveland was immediately re-elected, dad went back to the
white house and worked for him again while he earned his Post L.L.B?again
      at george Washington university?.

President Cleveland appointed him to be the director of the bureau of Indian
affairs for either the Washington territory or Oregon territory (I forget the
name of it at that time), which was when he moved to Tacoma to take the
post?.he became a member of the Supreme Court of the District of Columbia
on October 6, 1898. he was a member of the Washington state senate and
house of representatives and director of state institutions as a public servant
nearly his whole life until he died at 94 years old, still practicing law, in Yakima
county here on the west coast.

I hope this information is useful?..xoxo?..diane mcquesten:)
