Born in Ellwood City on September 13, 1946, Dollie was the daughter of the late Harold and Lenora Newton McQuiston. Always a caregiver, she worked at Passavant Retirement Center in Zelienople as an LPN. A member of Lillyville Church of God, Dollie absolutely loved life and she had the ability to find joy in the everyday. She enjoyed many things- traveling, flea markets, yard sales, cooking and reading. Among all things, she loved her family. Dolly is survived by her daughter, Gwendolyn Buchanan of Beaver Falls, two grandchildren, Kayla Bokor and Joseph Bokor, a great-granddaughter, Auna, a daughter-in-law, Tina Buchanan and two brothers, William McQuiston of Fombell and Robert (Cheryl) McQuiston of Wampum. In addition to her parents, Dollie was preceded in death by her son, Brant Buchanan, her companion, James McDonald and three brothers in infancy. Friends will be received on Saturday, October 1st from 4:00 PM until the time of the funeral service at 6:00 PM at the Joseph A. Tomon, Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 97 Grim Avenue, Ellport. 629 | Dolores Jean McQuiston (nee Chestnut), beloved wife of the late John W. McQuiston, passed on January 8, 2021 from complications of the Coronavirus. Dolores was 93 years of age and is survived by her two sons, Edward M. McQuiston (Helen) and John D. McQuiston (Gail); her six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild, and her beloved sister, Sandra Ann Walsh (nee Chestnut). She was predeceased by her brothers, Raymond S. Chestnut and Donald W. Chestnut. Dolores was born on June 28, 1927 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Samuel B. and Jean C. (nee Moore) Chestnut. She was a graduate of Southern High School and was a long-time resident of the Southwest section of the city. In 2016, she moved to The Ware Presbyterian Village in Oxford, PA. Dolores was a member of the Southwestern United Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir and had served on the board of deacons. She was a supporter of The Free Library of Philadelphia, an avid reader, and a lover of art. She enjoyed drives in the country, spending time with her family, loved camping and spent many summers vacationing with her family and friends. During the latter years of the Second World War, Dolores had worked at The Philadelphia Naval Shipyard helping to ready vessels for combat duty. She also worked at the F. Weber Company where she met her husband. She later worked as an AT&T operator and a sales associate at the Gimbles and Strawbridge & Clothier Department Stores. Mom will always be remembered for her warm smile, her loving ways, and the words of encouragement that she provided to us all. Survivors include Dorothy his loving wife – best friend, and four lovely daughters and spouses; Cheri and Daryl Roe CA, Kellie and Bob Stewart IN, Kellye and Matthew Guess, San Antonio, Alyson and George Schneller, Dallas; two sisters, Billie Smallwood and Mary McCuistion; and five grandchildren. Don was preceded in death by a daughter, Elaine Marie McCuistion and parents Luther and Gertie McCuistion of Burkburnett, Texas. A 1956 Burkburnett HS grad, Don enlisted in the US Navy and served on five Navy ships that deployed to the Mediterranean, Caribbean, Western Pacific, and Vietnam. Don served 20 years and retired as a Chief Warrant Officer W3. He earned BS and MBA Degrees and had a second career with GAO Government Accountability Office, and completed 37 years of total Federal service. He will be remembered for the love and joy he gave to his family and for the faith that guided all his actions. Don was an active member of Northside Church of Christ. Donna was a member of the United Church of Pender and also attended the 1st United Methodist Church in York. Donna was a teacher at Fremont then at Thurston County, P.E.O in Pender, Sunday School teacher and was a Librarian in Pender. She worked in the nursing home in Pender, was a member of ESA and the Pinochle Club. She is survived by her son, Bob (Deb) McQuistan of York; daughters, Sally Bailey of York and Jan McQuistan of California. Born on May 1, 1947, in New Castle, she was the daughter of the late Albert Merrit and Dorothy Mae (Wharry) McQuiston. Dorothy was a 1966 graduate of Neshannock High School. She was employed at Shenango China for 19 years. While at Shenango China, Dorothy worked as a billing clerk, operator, foreman, in the decal department and as a supervisor. She enjoyed hunting, fishing, and crafts and was a member of the Shenango Hunting and Fishing Club. She formerly attended King's Chapel Church. What gave Dorothy the most joy in life was the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. Dorothy is survived by her son, David "Scott" (Jessica L.) Richards of Grove City; two brothers, Gary (Dana) McQuiston of New Wilmington and George (Barb) McQuiston of Carlisle, Pennsylvania; two nieces, Kortney McQuiston of Hopewell and Cheryl McQuiston of Oklahoma; one nephew, Timmy McQuiston of Carlisle, Pennsylvania; and two grandchildren, Sydney and Levi Richards of Grove City. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death in 2001 by her common-law husband of 21 years, Martin Shaffer; and one nephew, Shane McQuiston. Dorothy passed away April 8, 2006 at North Kansas City Hospital at the age of 88. On March 29, 1941, Dorothy was united in marriage to Murrel F. Proffitt of Camden. He preceded her in death on July 7, 1991. Dorothy was the owner of Proffitt Tax Service retiring in 1978. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Richmond where she was a volunteer for the Church Nursery for 63 years. She was also a member of the Ray County Fellowship Center.
