202 | Agatha McCuistion Obituary Agatha (Cass) McCuistion passed away on April 11th, 2024, after a hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer. She was 76. Born on June 6th, 1947 in Dayton, Tennessee, Cass leaves behind a legacy of love and unforgettable memories. Her main love was a love for her family, especially her grandchildren. Cass loved traveling. Her summers were spent traveling with her daughter and granddaughter, crisscrossing the United States and Europe or on cruises with all her grandchildren. In the fall, she often traveled to Florida and South Carolina with her sisters. Her spring trips centered around Hawaii which was her favorite destination that she first explored with her late husband, Roger. When she was home, she could often be found in her backyard gardening or sitting on her back deck enjoying her flowers and the birds that visited her, especially a little red cardinal who made his home in the back corner of her yard. Christmas was always special to her, and her house was always decked out with Christmas decorations both inside and out. Cass was preceded in death by her loving husband of 48 years, Roger, and her parents, Brady and Anna Bishop. She was also preceded in death by her sisters Sandra Trusley and Theldon Brady as well as her brother Lesslie Bishop. She is survived by her son, Jeffery McCuistion and his wife Christine and her daughter, Nancy Horner, as well her grandchildren, Alexander Cooper and his wife Katie; Cameron McCuistion and his partner Emily Logan (son Ryder}; Kyle McCuistion; Abigail Horner and her partner Nick Monser. Bonus grandson John Horner and his wife Alyssa (daughter Holland). She also leaves behind her siblings David Bishop and his wife Becky, Sheila Goins and her husband Johnny, her sisters-in-law, Carolyn Bishop and Pam Mitchell and husband John, and her brothers-in-law Bart McCuistion and Kevin McCuistion as well as many nieces and nephews. She will truly be missed as she was the fabric who kept us together. A viewing will be held at 12 PM on Saturday April 20th at Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home in Dayton, Tennessee. A memorial service will be held immediately after the viewing at 2 PM, with Pastor Dwight Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Spence Cemetery. 210 | Alan “Al” D. Cannon, 65, of Cook, passed away on April 21, 2022. He was born on October 21, 1956, to Francis & Mary (McQuiston) Cannon in Newburgh, NY. He attended Newburgh Free Academy and graduated in 1975. After high school, Al joined the Air Force and had a long military career working as a criminal investigator stateside and overseas. He enjoyed serving his country for 21.5 years, retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant (E-9). Upon retirement, he earned his bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Bellevue University. He also worked for an additional 20 years at Werner Trucking. On July 24, 2004, Al married Glennis L. Smith in Cook. He spent his free time serving with the Cook Volunteer Fire Department, fishing, gardening, and, most importantly, spending time with his grandchildren. He was an avid Huskers and New York Giants fan. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR and John Wayne movies. He is survived by his wife Glennis Cannon; sons Brandon (Misty) Cannon, Ryan Cannon, Aaron Cannon, and stepdaughter Kandi (Trevor) Bilslend; grandchildren Caleb Cannon, Ayden Cannon, Lydia Bilslend, Lily Bilslend, Finlay Cannon, Aingeal Cannon, Ireland Cannon, and Lachlan Cannon; siblings Susan Hackel, Frank (Kathleen) Cannon, Michael Cannon, Claudia (Paul) Nickoloff; also, many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded by his parents and brother-in-law Ed Hackel. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 6th from 6 to 8 pm at the funeral home in Syracuse with family greeting friends. 216 | Alberta Y. Rupert-Murphy, 93, of New Castle passed away the morning of May 13, 2021, at her residence. Born on Dec. 6, 1927 in Indiana, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Ed and Margaret E. McQuiston Benson. Alberta was preceded in death by her four husbands, Merle Bales, Ed Murphy, Dom Poalise and William Rupert. Alberta was the previous owner of the Oasis Bar. She was a member of Life Changing Ministries, and faithfully read her Bible daily. In the early years, Alberta enjoyed traveling. She loved to cook and was known for her many wonderful recipes. A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, Alberta's greatest joy was the time she spent with all of her family. Alberta is survived by her children, Nancy and Harold Slagle, Bonnie and Ed Lyman, Cindy Reed, the Rev. William Rupert and his wife, Michelle, Wanda Shawley, and Brenda and Michael Piccolo; one brother, John Benson; one sister, Mary Anderson; 14 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husbands, Alberta was preceded in death by her brother, Ed Benson; two sisters, Doris Hendrickson and Betty Georgaris; two grandsons, Michael Piccolo and Billy McKinney; and two great-grandsons, Brayden W. Rupert and Marquel Bondi. Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday at Life Changing Ministries Church, 2929 Mercer Road. He preceded her in death on November 28, 1980. Survivors include; one daughter and son-in-law, Lois and Allen Estenbaum of Richmond, MO, one son-in-law, Ron Halterman of Richmond, MO, one daughter-in-law, Janice Haynes of Richmond, MO, one brother, Warren G. Johnson of Richmond, MO, nine grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Alice was preceded in death by one son, Ronnie Haynes, one daughter, Joan Estenbaum Halterman, four brothers, John M. Johnson, Richard P. Johnson, Wilbur L. Johnson and Howard A. Johnson. Alice was a homemaker. She was of the Christian faith. She had lived in the Richmond area most of her life. 231 | Alice Mae McQuistion (Sawin) died in the early morning of April 15, 2024 after a short illness. During her last days she was surrounded by the love of her brothers, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Alice was born October 26,1932 to Hubert and Maude (Larr) Sawin. Her older brother, Lyle (Mary) Sawin, preceded her in death. She is survived by her younger brothers, Paul (Jane) Sawin , and Mearl (Lonni) Sawin. She grew up on the family farm in Bloomfield Township, Michigan, and walked or skied to Shippy School across its fields. She graduated from high school in Manton, Michigan in 1951. On September 20,1952 she married Arnold McQuistion in Grayling, Michigan. Alice and Arnold had four children: Lori (Derek) Aab; Janice (Ernie) Jury: Mona (Chip) Garvin; and Jeffrey (Heidi) McQuistion. Arnold preceded her in death in August of 2010. She had a special bond with her five grandchildren: Erin Garvin, and Alexandra Garvin; Kellie Aab; Kyle (Anne) Jury and Janah (Ben) Crow. She had developed the same closeness with her 7 great-grandchildren—Elaina Conant, Lola Conant, Miller Crow, Hadlee Crow, Cloey Kraszewski, Stella Kraszewski, and Abigail Jury. Over the years Alice worked at Michigan Bell Telephone, and for Cadillac Public Schools food service. Alice enjoyed gardening, reading, birds, and walking in Michigan's woods, especially in spring. Until a few weeks before her death she lived at Sunnyside Senior Living. She and her family so much appreciated the care of the committed staff. She sleeps in Jesus, awaiting resurrection at His return. Her passing leaves a deep void for her family and we eagerly wait for the day when we will be reunited. Cremation has taken place. Allen was reared and educated in Hardin and graduated from Hardin High School. After high school he proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. His work history included working as a cowboy, carpenter, truck driver, sheriff deputy, and as a plant supervisor. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and boating. He also enjoyed grilling and smoking meats, woodworking, and reading. He was of the Baptist faith. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the donor’s choice.
