1401 | Kenneth C. Penny, 74, of Stet, MO, died at 7:25 a.m., on Tuesday, November 17, 2009, at his home. Kenneth was born June 25, 1935 in Stet to Charles and Catherine Fern (Stubblefield) Penny. He married Leva Fern (Cain) McGinnis of Elkhorn, MO on August 14, 1960, she survives of the home. Additional survivors include three sons and three daughters-in-law, Johnny and Vickie McGinnis of Hardin, MO; Dwayne and Marsha Penny of Stet and Stephen and Jami Penny of Hardin; one daughter and son-in-law, Belinda and Darrell Flick of Carrollton, MO; one sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Norman Calvert of Laurie, MO; eight grandchildren, Jeremy McGinnis, Julie McClure, Derek Flick, Kayla Flick, Addison Penny, Carson Penny, Mary Penny and Emma Penny; five great-grandchildren, Kinley McClure, Kottin McClure, Lindsey Clemens, Kassie McGinnis, Kaden McGinnis; and several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one infant sister, Helen Ann. Kenneth was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and loved all of his family. He was a lifelong farmer in the Stet community. He graduated from Stet High School in 1953. He was instrumental in helping start the Stet Fire Department. He was an original member of the Stet Young Farmers and Honorary Chapter Farmer of Stet FFA. He was also a member of the Missouri Farm Bureau. He was of the Christian Faith. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Ray County Hospice. Funeral services will be Saturday, November 21, 2009 at 1:30 p.m., at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Visitation will be Friday, November 20, 2009 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Burial will be at Richmond Memory Gardens in Richmond where military honors will be conducted by the Richmond VFW Post # 4398 and Richmond American Legion Post # 237. Excerpt from: History of the Greensboro Police Department "During Chief Isley's administration, two Greensboro Officers died in the line of duty. On May 4, 1921, Officer William T. McCuiston and his partner, John Oakes received information on a gang of whiskey runners. McCuiston, who was off-duty, and Oakes lay in wait for the bootleggers near Washington and Forbis (now Church) Streets. When the whiskey laden vehicle approached on Washington Street, Officer McCuiston hailed to the car. When it did not stop, he stepped onto its running board and ordered the driver to halt. Before McCuiston could take any further action, one of the three occupants fired a .38 caliber pistol point-blank into McCuiston's chest. 1410 | Kitty McQuisten With profound sadness we announce the passing of Kitty McQuisten, 85, our loving and devoted mother and friend to all whose lives she touched, on Tuesday, November 8, 2022. A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, May 27, 2023 at the Wheatland Bible Church in Wheatland, Wyoming with Pastor Tony Borton officiating. Granddaughters, Kitty Peterson and Jerah Nix, will give the eulogy. Kitty was born on Sunday, April 4, 1937 in Dayton, Ohio the daughter of William and Kay (Mitchell) Clegg. She moved with her mother and siblings to Thermopolis, Wyoming at the age of nine. Graduating from Thermopolis High School she continued on to receive a degree in Biological Sciences from Colorado State University. Kitty married Joe Gloyd in 1957 and settled in Wheatland. She was the beloved mother of Cindy (Bob) Guy, Cathy (Ron) Hagman, and Julie Henion; proud grandmother of, Kitty, Joe, Jerah, Jeremy, Ashley, Jaci, Todd, and Cody; and great grandchildren, Hope, Graham, Juan, Claire, Jack, Eli, and Orion. On February 1, 1978, she married Jack McQuisten. Stepdaughters, Lori Schnepp and Susie (Bryan) Stark; step grandchildren, Bill, Justin, and Matthew; and great grandchildren, Makaya, Kinsley, and Hudson were lovingly added to her growing family. Kitty lived a full life as a wonderful mother and homemaker and worked for many years at both the Stockgrowers Bank and Basin Electric. She loved to play bridge with her lifelong friends, kept an immaculate house, adored and spoiled her little pup, Calli, loved to travel with Jack, and spent many years with SOWERS (Servants on Wheels Every Ready), a Christian couples RV work ministry providing volunteer help to Christian ministries. Kitty was a member of the Wheatland Bible Church and PEO. Most of all she loved her family and instilled in her family her strong faith and personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Kitty was preceded in death by her beloved Jack on April 30, 2016 and siblings, Bill Clegg and Sally Hanneman. She was born in Kokomo to the late Lee Paul and Evelyn Alberta (McQuiston) Bone on June 18, 1936. Laura married Harold Cook on June 23, 1954 and he preceded her in death on November 9, 1992. Laura spent her life caring for her grandchildren. Once they were all grown, she worked for Howard County Children's Center, where she retired. She enjoyed attending her church, Brookside Free Methodist Church. Her passion was baking birthday cakes for her grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening flowers and spending time with her family. Surviving are two sons, Steve (Connie) Cook and Brian Cook; daughter-in-law, Janie Cook; son-in-law, Dennis Pyke; eleven grandchildren, Tony Cook, Gary (Tami) Cook, Chad (Terri) Cook, Matt (Harmony) Cook, Adam (Vanessa) Gibson, Michelle (Paul) Munoz, Nate (Sierra) Gibson, Amber (Chad) Appleton, Jake (Allison) Gibson, Kayla (Adam) Huff, Blaine (Hailey) Pyke; and many great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren. 1416 | Laura Christine Bryan McQuistion of Minneapolis passed away at Mercy Hospital-Unity Campus in Fridley, Minnesota, on Sept. 10, 2021, at age 51. Laura was born on July 4, 1970, in Jefferson, Iowa, to John and Ellen Bryan of Dawson. She attended Perry Schools until her graduation in 1988. She then attended Hamline University in St. Paul, double majoring in theater and English. Laura met her husband. Mike, when they both were working at the Penumbra Theater in St. Paul. They married Aug. 20, 1994, and had two sons, Sean and Conor. Laura taught in the Anoka Hennepin School District at Northdale Middle School, teaching eighth grade English. She achieved her Master of Arts in literature and creative writing from Hamline University in May 2019. Laura was preceded in death by her father, John Richard Bryan; niece, Emma Joyce Bryan; grandparents, Elmer and Joyce Podoll and Robert and Marguerite Bryan. She is survived by her husband, Michael McQuiston of Minneapolic; sons, Sean McQuiston of Minneapolis and Conor McQuiston of Mankato, Minnesota; granddaughters, Kathleen and Gracie McQuiston of Minneapolis; mother, Ellen Bryan of Pinewood, Minnesota; brother, Samuel (Kristine) Bryan of Canby, Oregon; nephews, Hunter Bryan of Hillsboro, Oregon, and Dillon Bryan of Bemidji, Minnesota; and many, many precious in-laws and other nieces and nephews. He was born Nov. 7, 1937, in Nevada, Indiana, the son of the late Mark Elwood and Mary Leah (Cottingham) McElfresh. On July 27, 1974, he married Velma M. Foreman, who preceded him in death Dec. 20, 2014. Leland was a 1955 graduate of Kokomo High School. He served with the United States Army Reserve from 1958 to 1963. Leland retired Dec. 31, 1999, from Chrysler Corp. after 35 years of service as a machinist. He was a skilled carpenter and had helped build many homes in Kokomo. Prior to working for Chrysler, he worked in maintenance for Kokomo-Center Schools. Leland was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He loved spending time with his family and children, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Leland was an avid Indianapolis Colts, IU Hoosiers, and Chicago Cubs fan. He enjoyed watching his teams on TV and enjoyed watching golf. Leland is survived by his children, Timothy Joe McElfresh, Freeport, Illinois, Kimberly Lynn (Benjamin L.) Wisher, and Marcie Elaine Walker, all of Kokomo; grandchildren, Nicholas (Cari) Walker, Jennifer (Shaun) Arnold, Harry (fianceé, Kaely Leary) Wisher, Cody (Michaela) Hooper, Kara (Ryan) Lovegrove, and Mackenzie (fiancé, Zane Balmer) McElfresh; great-grandchildren, Kaylee Walker, Mallory Arnold, Ben Arnold, Dylan Wisher, and Willow Wisher; brothers, Wayne McElfresh, and Carl McElfresh, both of Kokomo; sister-in-law, Delores (Richard) Patterson, Kokomo, along with several nieces and nephews.
