1318 | John McCuistion, 57, a resident of Harrison, passed away on Friday, January 13, 2023, surrounded by his family at his home. John Steven McCuistion was born to Richard and Linda Bailey McCuistion, November 24, 1965, in El Dorado, Arkansas. He had a happy childhood creating many lifelong friendships. His love was the game of baseball and spent many summers playing on teams coached by his father which he held dear to his heart. He also enjoyed hunting and spent many weekends with family and friends hunting. John loved a good time and could be found out with friends most weekends. John was a proud El Dorado Wildcat and graduated from El Dorado High School in 1984. John attended Northwestern State University, Garland County Community College, and Ouachita Baptist University to continue his baseball career. His time on the ballfield were some of his best memories. He was also a proud member of the Rho Sigmas. John graduated in 1990 from OBU with a BA in Political Science. Ouachita and friends made there held a special place in his heart. John started his career with Tyson Foods in 1990 and worked for them for nine years. He took a break from the poultry industry to open John’s Field and Tackle for a couple of years. He loved that little store and would still own it today if Kelly would have let him. In 2001, he returned to the poultry industry going to work for Cooling and Applied Technology (eventually becoming JBT, Inc.) where he worked for the next 21 years. Forming relationships is what John believed grew a business. He was excellent at his job, forming not only business relationships but lifelong friendships. He believed a handshake was more important than a PowerPoint. Also lucky for him, taking customers on duck hunts benefited both business deals and his love of hunting. He valued his job and the relationships built through it. John’s greatest treasure was his family. He loved them deeply. John met Kelly at OBU. They were married October 12, 1991 and were happily married for 31 years. John spoiled Kelly every chance he had. They loved spending time together. His world was complete when his boys were born. Chris, Coulter and Collier were his favorite people. When they were little, he enjoyed coaching their teams and playing ball in the yard. As the boys grew up, he was a huge supporter of their Goblin teams. Family trips, going to the lake and time spent with extended family created many fond memories. John always wanted our house to be the hangout for their friends and had an open-door policy. Through the years, he became known as Big Pop to the boy’s friends. A name he proudly embraced. John’s faith was very important to him. He was raised in a Christian home and carried on the tradition in raising his boys. He was member of First Baptist Church where he helped Kelly teach children’s Sunday school classes and worked in the Awana program. John was a former member of the Harrison School Board. Supporting the students, teachers and the rest of the Goblin nation were very important to him. John is preceded in death by his father, Richard McCuistion; a brother, Paul McCuistion; and his mother-in-law, Fran Coulter. He is survived by his wife, Kelly; three sons, Chris, Coulter and Collier and bonus son, Zach Wyles; his mother, Linda McCuistion; his brothers, Richard (Lisa) McCuistion and Marc McCuistion; and a loving extended family. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at First Baptist Church of Harrison, with Pastor Rob Davis officiating. The service will be livestreamed at www.fbcharrison.org for those who cannot attend. Arrangements are under the direction of Holt Memorial Chapel. Pallbearers are Jason Allen, John Bilger, Jon Burnside, Darin Chancellor, Chris Keylon, Bart Langley, Bill Lovette, Kyle Ratliff, Chuck Tlapek and Jerry Wilkins. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Wednesday at First Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society at P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741 or at www.cancer.org. The online obituary and guestbook are available at www.HoltChapel.com. | McCuistion, John Steven (I32098)

1320 | John McQuiston John Henry McQuiston, age 68, of Vadnais Heights, Minnesota passed away unexpectedly on Sunday January 23rd. John Henry McQuiston was born December 9, 1953 in Sandstone, MN to Leo and Ida (Patch) McQuiston. John is preceded in death by his loving wife and highschool sweetheart, Laurie Ann McQuiston (Nelson). He served in the United States Army as a Tactical wire specialist from 1976-1981. John worked for the Army Corps of Engineers as Lock and Dam operator until he retired on December 31st, 2018. Although he had retired, he continued to intermittently work at the Dam for another two years. If he wasn’t working at the lock you could always find him doing some type of handyman work. Anyone who knew John, knew he needed to stay busy. He really started getting into shape. Bike riding was something he really enjoyed, no matter the weather. He set monthly goals and those were usually crushed within the first weeks of the month. This year he even took up snowshoeing, his first time out he went 6 miles. John was one of those you could count on attending family get-togethers, he had 17 brothers and sisters, and a soft spot for the little ones. If ever there was a little one around you could find them in his arms. John's passing will be mourned by his children Chris (Trudy), Cherri (Todd), Christina (John) and Angel; his grandchildren Kailey, Jasmine, Payton, Kristianna, Savannah, Colton and Macey; Michael, Nancy, GeGe and many foster children; his siblings Chuck, Ray, Theresa, Bob, Billy, Terry, Toni, Tina, Tammy and Joyce. | McQuiston, John Henry (I8390)

While at Citibank, he helped grow the trade and supply chain finance business in the retail and consumer products sector. The Citibank role took him to London for 11 years, where his innate love of Britain culminated in his becoming a proud citizen of Her Majesty in 2016. His heart may have resided in the U.K., but his soul will find rest at Merrymeeting Lake in New Hampshire, the family’s summer haven for many decades. Outside work, John devoted countless hours to help those struggling with life’s most intractable problems. He changed hundreds of lives and his legacy lives on in those who continue to pay John’s lessons forward. He was known for his quick wit and uncanny ability to make people laugh. John was a fitness enthusiast, fluent in French and an avid reader of European history, but his real devotion was to the people he loved and his four-legged daughter, Edwina, all of whom will miss his mischief, kindness and loyalty. 1343 | John Wiley McChristian, Sr. April 14, 1934 – May 14, 2023 On Sunday night, May 14, 2023, John Wiley McChristian, Sr. left this earth after a brief illness and went to his Heavenly Father. John was born in Fort Worth on April 14, 1934. He was born to Benjamin Franklin McChristian and Lela Mae Cates McChristian. On the day he celebrated his first birthday, the dust bowl’s worst storm, “black Sunday”, blasted through Oklahoma and Texas. That day brought only one of the many winds of change that came and went throughout his life. His early years included his siblings Bennie Frank, Lucy, Lela Mae, and Howard. All of his siblings and their beloved spouses have preceded John in death. He was also preceded in death by his grandson, Curtis John Seiwert. His father moved the family from Fort Worth to Big Spring in West Texas to find a drier climate for Lela Mae’s asthma. He and his siblings farmed cotton with their father until they were old enough to find work off the farm. Over the coming years, the siblings, their spouses and the many nieces and nephews visited that old farm often. The youngsters were especially fascinated by the two-hole outhouse. John left High School without graduating to work at the tank car shop at the Cosden Refinery in Big Spring. At 18 he married 17 year-old Joyce Marie Watkins and they began a life that would veer across the country and back. Throughout their lives together John and Joyce made worship and prayer a priority. Their unwavering faith was a living testament to friends, family, and neighbors. John loved the adventure of seeing new places and over the next 70 years, they lived in Big Spring, Texas; El Dorado, Kansas; Bakersfield, California; Ventura, California; Davidson, North Carolina; Denison, Texas; Gun Barrel City, Texas; and at last, Athens, Texas. To support his family, and his wanderlust, John took on many jobs and titles. Despite his modest education, he understood machines and could figure out how to solve almost any problem. He worked on railroad tank cars in Big Spring, ran a tank car shop in El Dorado, learned how to repair copy machines in Bakersfield, then fabricated walk-in freeze-dryers in Bakersfield and Ventura; by the time they moved to North Carolina, he figured out how to build an automated line to sterilize, fill and label small glass vials with powdered reagents while satisfying FDA regulations. In addition to these civilian adventures, John also served in the military. He was a proud member of the Texas National Guard for 10 years and was called to active duty in 1961 at the height of the Cuban Missile Crisis. During his service he was awarded, “Soldier of the Year” for his battalion in 1961 and spent an afternoon with Audie Murphy as a reward. At age 65 he retired from the medical product field and began to work in the fields of grass and hay around Denison. He loved cutting and baling hay as he returned to the farming roots he left so many years before. He loved trying to make an old tractor start that everyone else had given up on; or cannibalizing two ancient dump trucks to get one that would run and dump … sometimes. His last 6 years were spent living on Cedar Creek Lake until he could no longer walk down to his dock and then living quietly in Athens, Texas. As his body began to tire and wear out on him, he often told his children that he just wanted “to make it to the party.” He did, and what a party it was. In August of 2022, surrounded by children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and great grandchildren, John and Joyce celebrated 70 years of marriage. John is survived by his wife of 70 years, Joyce Marie McChristian, of Athens, Texas. He is also survived by daughter Debra Winter of Kingman, Kansas; son John McChristian Jr and wife Lee Ann McChristian of Athens, Texas; and daughter Connie Seiwert and husband Steve Seiwert of Kingman, Kansas. John is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. A funeral service will take place at Dannel Funeral Home Saturday morning, May 20, 2023. A viewing is scheduled for 9:00am – 10:30am; with a service to follow at 10:30am. Bro. Todd Catteau of Park Avenue Church of Christ in Denison will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Cedarlawn Memorial Park. After the interment, a reception will be held at Dannel Funeral Home, 302 S. Walnut Street, Sherman, Texas, 75090, (903) 893-1171. In addition to flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Assoc. (www.diabetes.org) | McChristian, John Wiley Sr. (I21748)
