Lynval Geneva McCuiston Gifford of Geronimo, passed away peacefully in her sleep, Oct. 11, 2023, at her home in Harlingen, Texas at the age of 93.
Lynval was born on June 24, 1930, at home in Comanche County to John Leland McCuiston and Winnie Opelena Crowder McCuiston. She graduated from Lawton High School in 1948. Lynval married the love of her life, Melvin D. Gifford on Aug. 6, 1949. They raised their family beginning in Lawton; then later settled two miles West of Geronimo.
Most of her career was with the finance department, Civil Service at Fort Sill. She retired in 1977.
Lynval is survived by her daughter Melda Magill of Kerrville, TX, daughter Tresa Jackson (Jim) of Harlingen, TX, and son Donald Gifford (Katherine) of Geronimo.
She is preceded in death by her parents John and Winnie McCuiston, husband Melvin Gifford, daughter Vicki Rena Gifford (2/5-2/6/1953), and brother Perry Kirk McCuiston.
She was a proud grandmother to Mitchell Box, Athena Peters, Jamison Gifford, Jacob Peters, Matthew Gifford, Stacy Reyna, Alicia Hainline, Meagan Magill, Penny Price, and William Magill. She had 11 great-grandchildren. She also lives on in the memories of numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Her joy in life was providing for and loving her family. She spent leisure time bowling, playing cards, sewing, gardening, and traveling.
Lynval’s remains will be cremated. Graveside services will be held Saturday, Nov. 4, 2023 at 2 p.m. in Faxon Cemetery, Faxon.

John married Winnie Opelena Crowder on 23 Oct 1925 in Geronimo, Comanche County, Oklahoma. Winnie was born in 1907 in Arkansas; and died. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
