    Funeral services were to be held at 10.00 a.m. Wednesday this morning) August 27, at the First Baptist Church in Clayton, with Reverend Billy Rammage, pastor, officiating. Burial was to follow in Clayton Memorial Cemetery.

    Pallbearers were Lonnie Roberts, Ethan Labrier, Lewis Williams, Paul Williams, Lewie Gibbs, and Paul Riley.

    Honorary pallbearers were James Schrock, Pete Davis, and Buddy Lovin.

    Lura was born in Nocoma, Montague County, Texas, on December 20, 1894,to Joseph Chadwell Smithson and Lillie Lura (Stout)Smithson. She was the oldest of seven children.

    The family moved to Clayton,New Mexico, in 1918. Lura had a job at the First National Bank when she arrived, and later worked at Isaacs Hardware Store, the M. G. Tixier Clothing Store and as the Clayton City Clerk for two years.

    Lura had been a resident of Salida del Sol Nursing Home sinceDecember, 1990. She was a homemaker, business woman, ranch woman, and could ride a horse with the best of cowgirls, She loved her yard and garden, and excelled in raising beautiful roses and other flowers. Lura furnished flowers for her church as well as sharing with friends. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, having been
    saved at an early age. Lura also belonged to numerous civic organizations.

    Lura was preceded in death by one son, Harold Porter McCuistion; one stepson, Robert Dee Graves, whom she raised; and by her parents, four sisters and one brother. Lura is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth "Betty" Pepper of Clayton; two step daughters, Leona Armijo of Montezuma, New Mexico, and Imogene Francis of Glendale, Arizona; one step daughter-in-law, Jo Graves of Grants, New Mexico; one brother, Malcolm Smithson of Clayton; two granddaughters. Peggy Bolivar of Plantation, Florida, and Audrey Lea Best of Norman, Oklahoma; and many step-grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
