    Hazel IreneMcCuiston, 86, of Dyersburg, TN, passed away on Tuesday, October 6, 2020 atHarborview Health Systems.
     
    Hazel was bornon November 2, 1933, in Dyersburg, TN, to the late Dee and Rosie Mae AndersonBurns. She was a homemaker and attends Three Oaks Chapel, where she worked inthe nursery.
     
    Services willbe at 12 p.m. Friday, October 9, 2020 in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Homewith the Rev. Bill Phipps officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
     
    The family willreceive visitors from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Friday, October 9, 2020 at DyersburgFuneral Home.
     
    Survivorsinclude her two daughters, Charlotte Hogue (Dennis) of Dyersburg, TN and KellyFranks (Phillip) of Dyer, TN; three sons, Vick Burns (Tammy), Jimmy McCuiston(Shellie) and David McCuiston (Gwen), all of Dyersburg, TN; ten grandchildren;and sixteen great-grandchildren.
     
    In addition toher parents, Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, David McCuiston; foursisters, Jennie French, Lily Shipley, Flossie Riggs and Martha Viar; and twobrothers, L.D. Burns and R.B. Burns.
     
    Pallbearerswill be Allen Willis, Daniel Burns, Brandon Franks, Little Dave McCuiston,David Lowery and Spence Lowery. Honorary pallbearers will be Vick Burns, JimmyMcCuiston, Dennis Hogue, David McCuiston, Phillip Crawford, Homer Moore,Burless Davis and Ronnie Burns.

    Andrew died as a result of the Spanish flu, during the epidemic of this year.

    Judy Moore, great granddaughter of Andrew S. McCuistion interviewed Andrew's son David, who provides the following, "they settled on the West Tennessee banks of the Tennessee River near Clifton, TN, and were there when the flu swept through the area. David said that they were living in a houseboat when his daddy died but had moved to a house and were there when his mother died."

    Andrew married Jane Hood on 12 Jan 1891 in Rhea County, Tennessee. Jane (daughter of Rufus Hood and Susan) was born in 1877 in Rhea County, Tennessee; died in 1920 in Probably Perry County, Tennessee. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    A second round of the Spanish flu swept through the area, killing Jane. With her death, the "younger children had no real memory of relatives "back home" in Rhea County, Tennessee, and were just farmed out among the older children.

    It was written that "Janie married Andy McCuistion (a fisherman) and left Rhea County on a riverboat on the Tennessee River. Her family did not hear from her again.
