Samuel was referred to as "Mr. Tom" by some of the old timers in Bayou Sorrel, Louisiana. He was one of the first settlers of Bayou Sorrel. He settled on the point of Grand River and Bayou Sorrel. This was also known as the "Route of Attackapas". He had a front porch view of all the river traffic as it passed by. The old house he built in 1910 is still standing today. It is the oldest still standing structure in Bayou Sorrel. His heirs sold the house to Clayton Carline circa 1942.
Samuel married Ruby Marie Dupree on 4 Jun 1960 in Plaquemine, Louisiana. Ruby was born on 13 Oct 1917 in Port Teche, St. Martin Parish, Louisiana; died on 20 Nov 2004 in Plaquemine, Parish Iberville, Louisiana; was buried on 24 Nov 2004 in Grace Memorial Park, Plaquemine, Parish Iberville, Louisiana.
