The 1850 Federal Census for Robertson County, Texas lists Thomas, age 10, birth location Missouri. He appeared in the census in 1860 in Robertson County, Texas.282 Thomas is listed as Thomas McCuistian 20 boarder in the 1860 Federal Census for Robertson County, Texas. He served in the military Confederate Army Civil War. Thomas served three years in the Confederate Army. He enlisted 3 May 1861, at Oenaville, Bell County, Texas; in Robertson's Five Shooters. He was a private. Thomas died between 1881 and 1888 at the age of 41. He was buried in Brownboro County Seat, Athens, Texas. He has reference number 2480.

Thomas Benton McCuiston and Julia Cross were married about 1866. Julia Cross was born in January 1842 in Tennessee.856 She appeared in the census on 4 June 1900 in Mena, Center Township, Polk County, Arkansas.856 She Pension Application in 1907 in Sebastian County, Arkansas.854,857 Julia applied for a pension for Thomas's service in the Confederate States Army from Sebastian County, Arkansas in 1907. It seems her application was not approved due to having no proof of indigency. Robertson County, Texas decided to approve the application. Julia was allowed one hundred dollars a year in pension. The approval is dated 13 August 1909.
