"During Chief Isley's administration, two Greensboro Officers died in the line of duty.

On May 4, 1921, Officer William T. McCuiston and his partner, John Oakes received information on a gang of whiskey runners. McCuiston, who was off-duty, and Oakes lay in wait for the bootleggers near Washington and Forbis (now Church) Streets. When the whiskey laden vehicle approached on Washington Street, Officer McCuiston hailed to the car. When it did not stop, he stepped onto its running board and ordered the driver to halt. Before McCuiston could take any further action, one of the three occupants fired a .38 caliber pistol point-blank into McCuiston's chest. Officer McCuiston died instantly." I, BESS MCCUISTON, of Greensboro, Guilford County, North Carolina, declare this to be my last will, and I hereby revoke all former wills made by me.

ITEM ONE

I hereby appoint my son, RALPH McCUISTON, as Executor of this my last will and testament.

ITEM TWO

I direct my Executor to pay all of my funeral expenses, together with all of my just debts, all expenses and costs of administering my estate, and likewise to pay out of the principal or corpus or accumulated income of my estate any and all inheritance, estate or succession taxes, duties or levies, federal or state, which may be properly and lawfully charged, assessed and levied against my estate or against any of the beneficiaries hereunder or against any interest of any beneficiary hereunder.

ITEM THREE

I hereby will and devise the following items of personal property to the individuals named:

To my son, Ralph McCuiston, my solitaire diamond ring.

To my daughter, Lucille McCuiston Jones, my three-diamond ring.

To my grandson, William McCuiston, my 1941 Chevrolet automobile.

To my granddaughters, Jean and Kay McCuiston, all of my costume jewelry, in equal shares.

To my daughter, Lucille McCuiston Jones, my furs.

To my daughter-in-law, Myrtle McCuiston, my afghan.

To my sister, Mildred Tippins, of Miami, Florida, all of my clothes and articles of wearing apparel.

ITEM FOUR

All the rest and residue of my estate, I will, devise and bequeath to my son, Ralph McCuiston and my daughter, Lucille McCuiston Jones, share and share alike, and for the purpose of dividing said property I direct my Executor shall have the sole discretion to distribute said property either in cash or in kind, or partly in cash and partly in kind.
