Catherine Tenant Skaggs and Reverend John Columbus Long were married on 22 July 1864 in Madison County, Arkansas.444 Reverend John Columbus Long, son of John Crow Long and Matilda Rice Sanders, was born on 26 February 1842 in Huntsville, Madison County, Arkansas.444 He served in the military the Confederate Army on 16 June 1861.444 When the civil war broke out, John enlisted in Company E, Third Arkansas, Walker's State Troops, and after serving three months entered the Confederate service in Company A, McIntosh's regiment. He afterward joined Gordan's regiment, where he remained throughout the war. John served as recruiting officer until 22 July 1864, when he married and then joined Price's unit. He was captured during Price's raid into Missouri, and held a prisoner eight months at Johnson Island. John was made a Lieutenant with Price's unit.
John was the first to leave his locality and the last to return. He returned to Arkansas in July 1865.
