3765. Jackson Clendenon McQuiston was born on 5 September 1875 in Sandy Creek, Pennsylvania. In 1891 he was a Clerk with Union Switch and Signal Company in Pennsylvania Railroad.3120 Between 1910 and 1931 he was a Head of Advertising for Westinghouse Electric Corporation in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.3121 Jackson joined the Westinghouse Corportation in 1897. He was an associate of George Westinghouse at the turn of the century and his association with Dr. Frank Conrad, who discovered radio broadcasting and all of the things that led to cause Mr. McQuiston to write his name with a bold stroke in the history of his times when, after listening to the gentle scientist make a musical broadcast about 1920 he said, "Frank, tell them we make irons and other things", and radio advertising was born. In 1910, he became the head of the advertising and the public relations department of the Westinghouse Corporation. Jackson is known as the "Father of Radio Advertising." He was responsible for the first live radio broadcast by radio station KDKA in Pittsburgh in 1920. He held that position of Head, Advertising until he retired about twenty years ago. Between 1931 and 1942 Jackson was a Managing Secretary for the American Gear Manufacturing Association.3122 He died on 16 December 1953 at the age of 78 in St. Petersburgh, Florida.3123 Jackson died suddenly, of a heart attack, on Wednesday 16 December 1953, while he was enjoying his annual visit to St. Petersburg, Florida.
