373. Thomas James McCuistion was born on 22 May 1837 in Ray County, Missouri. He appeared in the census in the household of James McCuistion and Isabel McClintock on 16 October 1850 in Ray County, Missouri.241 Name moved place date.244 Thomas writes he has "lived in Texas, since 1856." He appeared in the census on 11 July 1860 in Gainesville, Cooke County, Texas.243 Thomas served in the military Confederate Army Civil War in Camp Reeves, Grayson County, Texas.688 He served with Co. A, 11th Texas Cavalry, Confederate Army for three years; enlisting in the fall of 1861 in Grayson County, Texas. According to application interogation of friend, T. J. Roane; Thomas was "taken with fever which settled in his knee, making his leg stiff. He was discharged on account of same." T. J. Roane adds, Thomas was 1st Lieutenant of Co. A, 11th Texas Cavalry. In 1899 he was a Carpenter.244 Thomas is unable to work due to "gun shot [received] in Army. The affidavit of physician states, "ulcer of leg involving anterior portion of tibial region. Also results of injury to abdominal wound which [unable to read] and another injury to spinal column resulting from old gun shot wound." The affidavit is signed by Dr. L. P. McCuistion, Thomas's first cousin once removed. He lived in Lamar County, Texas in 1899 689 Thomas James had lived in Lamar County, Texas "since July 99." Thomas died on 27 August 1911 at the age of 74 in Goree, Knox County, Texas.690 He has reference number RM 128 - LBM 62-353. Thomas, Charles and Gabriel, joined their parents before the Civil War in a move to Navarro County, Texas.

Thomas James McCuistion and Caroline S. "Carrie" Smithey were married on 4 December 1867 in Navarro County, Texas.358,690 Thomas James McCuiston married Carrie Smithey, the sister of Leora Smithey who married Charles Montgomery McCuiston. Thomas James and Charles Montgomery are brothers. They358,690 appeared in the census on 2 June 1880 in Navarro County, Texas.691 Caroline S. "Carrie" Smithey242,691, daughter of Fielding Lucas Smithy and Prudence Elizabeth Howell, was born on 8 April 1851 in Corsicana, Navarro County, Texas.690 691 Name moved place date.692 She died on 26 August 1920 at the age of 69 in Goree, Knox County, Texas.692 Carrie died from autointoxication, while in the home of her granddaughter, E. V. Gillentine. Goree in now in Baylor County, Texas. She was also known as Carrie.692 Carrie died from autointoxication, while in the home of her granddaughter, E. V. Gillentine.
